  Acute Renal Failure
 

Acute renal failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by a rapid decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The decline may take hours to days. The clinical work up and patient management present a major challenge to the clinician. This lecture reviews the anatomy and physiology of the kidney and renal failure.

Dr. Kung is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension and Associate Program Director, Nephrology Fellowship at the Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia PA. He received his medical education at University of Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Kung performed an internship and residency at Hillbrow Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa and Johannesburg General Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition, he was Senior House Officer at a number of Hospitals in the United Kingdom. He completed an Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology Fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Diplomat of the American Board of Nephrology. Dr. Kung has written a number of articles on a variety of nephrology topics.
Dr. Allan B. Schwartz is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. In addition, he is Director of Continuing Medical Education at the Medical School. Dr. Schwartz has lectured extensively on a wide range of nephrology disorders.
