Allergic rhinitis is a heterogeneous disorder that despite its high prevalence is often undiagnosed. It is the most common allergic disease and is an important public health problem that affects approximately 40 million people in the United States. The primary care practitioner sees these patients often and this lecture will assist in the diagnosis and treatment.

> List the differential diagnosis of allergic rhinitis.

Meredith Heltzer, M.D.
Janet Beausoleil, M.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Attending Physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire and her fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Beausoleil is board-certified in Pediatrics and Allergy & Immunology. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. She has a special interest in the areas of pediatric asthma and allergic disorders.
Meredith Heltzer, M.D. is a Fellow in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, PA. Prior to this, she was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Emergency Department at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Dr. Heltzer received her medical degree from MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine of Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She served a pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s and is now board-certified in pediatrics.
