Visualisation is the key to the physical examination of the heart. Each physiologic event that occurs during the cardiac cycle has a corresponding physical finding. This program will bring into sharp focus the clinical evaluation of the patient with cardiac problems, assisting the clinician in improving their ability to apply clinical findings to diagnose and assess the result of treatment.

  ONLINE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES  
Upon completion of this program the participants will:
 
> Better understand the importance of clinical skills in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
> Appreciate the high degree of diagnostic accuracy that analysis of the arterial and venous pulses and palpation of the cardiac impulse can provide.
> Be better able to interpret heart sounds and murmurs.
> Know the treatment of allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis regarding environmental control and medication.
> Improve their ability to apply clinical findings to diagnosis, and assess the results of treatment in patients with cardiac disorders.

Michael S. Feldman, M.D. and
Bernard Segal, M.D.
Michael S. Feldman, M.D. received his Doctor of Medicine from Hahnemann University School of Medicine. He performed his Residency and Fellowship in Cardiology at the same University. He served as Director of Cardiology Services at the Philadelphia Heart Institute from 1980 through 1998 and is currently Chairman of the Graduate Education Foundation. He is a Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Feldman has written extensively on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease.
Bernard Segal, M.D. is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Jefferson Heart Institute, as well as Director of Cardiology at Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Segal earned his BSc cum laude and his M.D. and C.M. degrees at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. After teaching fellowships at Harvard University and Georgetown Medical Schools, Dr. Segal's long career in Philadelphia medicine began in 1961-62 as an Associate in Medicine at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital. From 1978 to 1986, he was a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Likoff Cardiovascular Institute at Hahnemann University. In 1987, he served as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and was Founding Director of the Philadelphia Heart Institute. Dr. Segal is the co-author of 12 books and more than 275 scientific papers, including the earliest papers on the subjects of echocardiography, cardiac catherization, exercise stress testing, valvular heart disease and patient follow-up after coronary artery bypass surgery. His numerous editorial positions include editorial board member of the American Journal of Noninvasive Cardiology since 1986 and Geriatrics since 1985. He was the 1997 recipient of the Heart Institute of Philadelphia Award from the American Heart Association, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, as well as the 1997 Allegheny Award for Exceptional Achievement. Dr. Segal was one of the youngest members ever elected to the Board of Trustees of the American College of Cardiology.
