Who we are

We are a small, dedicated team who are all passionate about delivering high quality training courses that meet the needs of both learners and employers. Our head office is based in central Scotland, however we deliver training across the UK. Please contact us if you have any questions or you would like more information.

Charles G Bloe BSc (Edin) RN NDN ITU cert: Managing Director and Clinical Lead

Charlie graduated with a BSc in Social Sciences and Nursing Studies from the University of Edinburgh in 1984. He is also a Registered General Nurse and District Nurse. He gained his Intensive Care Certificate in Glasgow in 1988. In 1997, Charlie established CB Nursing Updates whilst working full-time in the NHS. At that stage there were only three nursing-focused courses in the portfolio. The re-launch of the company as Charles Bloe Training Limited pays tribute to the fact that there are now more than 100 courses and 75 tutors – meeting the training needs of nurses, paramedics, pharmacists, doctors and other health and social care staff.

Charlie has a wealth of clinical experience – both in the NHS and in training development and delivery. He has spent most of his clinical career in acute cardiology. During his time as a senior nurse in coronary care unit, he was particularly proactive in the field of reperfusion strategies in acute coronary syndrome. In 2000, Charlie established an innovative nurse-led thrombolysis programme, one of the first programmes in Scotland. He continues to work as a Clinical Manager in NHS Highland (coronary care) and adopts a hands-on approach within the company – personally delivering numerous training courses throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland every year. Charlie is passionate about ensuring all of our specialist courses are written and delivered by practicing clinical experts; we feel that this not only ensures a high calibre of service, it also allows us to stand out from our competitors.

Charlie was awarded first place at the prestigious Cardiac Nursing Awards in 2008 for ‘Innovation in Cardiac Education’. This was followed by ‘The Thrombus 2012 Award’ in recognition of educational work that has educated more than 15,000 healthcare practitioners around stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation.

Mandy Day-Calder: Operations and Relationship Manager

Mandy qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1993 and has a wealth of experience in both acute and palliative care settings. In 2005 Mandy left the NHS to work in the voluntary sector to specialise in information provision (both online and in print), service delivery and online development / marketing.

Mandy joined the Charles Bloe Training team in 2015, initially on a consultancy basis and is now a permanent member of the core team. She is passionate about driving the business forward by aligning business needs with those of our learners, clients and trainers. She also works as a health & well-being coach and writes / edits articles for RCNi journals. She has a Certificate in Professional Coaching Practice and a Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing.

Tracy Hamilton: Course Administrator

Tracy gained her HNC in Business Administration whilst working as a sales administrator within a manufacturing company. After taking time out to have her family she returned to an administration role at a large GP Practice in Linlithgow and from there went on to work as an administrator within the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Falkirk Royal Infirmary.

Tracy joined the Charles Bloe Training team in January 2004 where she currently carries out all of the administration duties including taking course bookings, accounts management, distribution of marketing materials and much, much more!

Our trainers

All of our specialist clinical courses are written and delivered by our team of specialist healthcare professionals who deliver training that is both evidence-based and reflects current best practice. We acknowledge that, at times best practice may differ from current guidelines, e.g. when clinical guidelines are out of date / being reviewed. Our mandatory training sessions are all delivered by experienced and qualified training professionals who are skilled at delivering content that is appropriate to the client group.

It is extremely important to us that our all courses are delivered by trainers who:

  • Are committed to ensuring that the learning outcomes are met.
