Urinary Catheterisation

This course will participants with expert theoretical and practical instruction on how to perform male and female urinary catheterisation in a safe and skilled manner. The introduction of a urinary catheter presents an opportunity for micro-organisms to invade the urinary tract and result in a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTI is the most common healthcare associated infection in the UK.

We can adjust this face-to-face programme to suit the needs of the group and it can be complimented with a range of our online training courses.

  • Course duration: 4 - 5 hours.

  • Understand the anatomy & physiology of the male and female genitourinary systems.
  • Describe the indications for urinary catheterisation.

  • Describe the signs and symptoms of a urinary tract infection.
  • Describe and demonstrate the correct technique for insertion and aftercare of a urinary catheter.
