| Define SCI and how the level of injury can impact on somones abilities |
| Identify how a spinal cord injury can affect the individual from a holistic view point |
| Identify potential complications after SCI and what to do to minimise and manage these |
| Discuss the causes, signs, symptoms and management of Autonomic Dysreflexia |
| Discuss the complications of poikilothermia |
| Discuss the impact of SCI in relation to manual handling |
| Debate the impact of a SCI in relation to tissue viability and pressure area care |
| Understand the impact that spinal cord injuries may have on the bowel and how to manage these |
| Identify causes of constipation and the complications of this to the client |
| Describe the management / treatment of constipation |
| Explore how to administer suppositories and enemas safely and effectively |
| Understand the theory of how to perform digital rectal examination, digital rectal stimulation and manual evacuation of feaces and the associated complications |
| Understand the impact that spinal cord injuries may have on the urinary system and how to manage these |
| Explore the different options for catheter use including Suprapubic, Urethral and Intermittent catheterisation |
| Discuss how to effectively care for a catheter and prevent associated catheter complications including infection, blockage, leakage, trauma, expelled catheter |
| Identify the recording requirements surrounding caring for an individual with a SCI |
